COLUMBIA – The Westwood softball team notched its first Region 4-4A victory Tuesday with a 4-3 win at A.C. Flora.
The Falcons got on the scoreboard first with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Redhawks got a run in the second and scored three runs on no hits in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
Taylor Blevines got on base with a 1-out walk and Erin Wilson reached on an error. Alivia Hodges bunted Blevines to third and Wilson to second, and Jada McConnell drew a 2-out walk.
With the bases loaded, Azaria Belton came to bat. Blevins scored on a wild pitch, Wilson scored on a passed ball that brought McConnell to third. McConnell scored when Belton reached on an error.
Koreena Scott struck out to end the inning, but it was all Westwood needed for the win.
Flora scored two runs in the fifth but pitcher Makayla Drakeford held the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way.
Westwood (7-1) plays host to A.C. Flora tonight.
