ROCK HILL – The Blythewood baseball team recorded two shutouts on the road Friday and Monday.
On Friday at Northwestern, Bengals pitcher Ben Blackwell gave up three hits in five innings and struck out nine, and Alex Simmons and John Rollings combined for an 8-0 shutout of the Trojans.
Landon Penfield doubled and batted in three runs. Caleb McCants, Camden Watts and Alex Nevils had two hits each. Nevils and Zac Cowan also doubled.
In the first inning Monday at Rock Hill, Blythewood sent 13 men to the plate and scored 10 runs on five hits and three errors. The Bengals went on to win 15-0 in five innings.
Nevils homered to lead off the first inning, and Cowan teed off on a grand slam homer over the centerfield fence to close out the scoring in the frame.
Cowan went 2-for-4 and had five RBI. Stephen Lang-Spittler also had two hits. Penfield had a double and 2 RBI.
Davis Wright pitched four innings, giving up two hits and striking out six for the win. Luke Duncan came on in the fifth inning, gave up a hit and struck out one.
Blythewood (12-1, 4-0 Region 4-5A) played host to Rock Hill Wednesday and is at Rock Hill Friday.
