BLYTHEWOOD – Maddi Bell went 2-4 with a home run, Maya Van Zyl tripled, and the Blythewood softball team took advantage of six River Bluff errors to beat the Gators 10-1 in the Bengals’ home opener Monday night.
River Bluff took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ansley Jansen came home on Anna Whitmer’s sacrifice fly.
Blythewood put three runs on the board in the third on an error, a wild pitch, and Bell’s groundout that scored a run.
The Bengals got a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.
In the sixth inning they put the game out of reach with four more runs. Bell’s homer came with one out and Josie Smythe at second to make it 8-1. After Haley McCoy drew a walk, Van Zyl scored her with a triple. Van Zyl later scored the 10th and final run of the game on a wild pitch.
Blythewood (4-2) plays Dutch Fork Thursday.
