BLYTHEWOOD – Run with Rotary, a 5K and half marathon, is set to start this Saturday, Feb. 12 in Doko Meadows Park in Blythewood.
The event is being held to raise funds for the club’s scholarship program to fund scholarships for area high school seniors. It is the third attempt the club has made this year to raise those funds. The club had originally planned to raise the $8,000, needed to fund four $2,000 scholarships, from its second annual Christmas tree sales that were scheduled to begin before Thanksgiving. Those plans were dashed by the pandemic and subsequent supply chain problems.
The back-up plan was to run the 5K and half marathon on Jan 22. Those plans were dashed by an ice storm predicted on the weekend of the races. The members are now hoping to fund four $2,000 scholarships with this weekend’s event.
Runners and walkers can register for the races at StrictlyRunning.com. The half marathon starts at 8 a.m., and the 5K follows at 8:15 a.m.
Packet pickup is Friday, Feb. 11, from 3 – 7p.m. at Doko Meadows Park. Each of the participants will receive a medal, and the top three finishers in each age group will receive trophies.
The Rotary plans to make the races an annual event and also bring back the tree sales lot next year.
