WINNSBORO – Fairfield Central honored seven senior basketball players, James Knapper, Kelton Mobley Floyd Peay, Madisen Belton, Melody Belton, De’asia Feaster and Jaterria Russell last Thursday as they hosted a tough Lower Richland opponent.
The Griffin girls looked to rebound from a 61-35 loss at Lower Richland on Tuesday, and they came just 12 point shy of pulling out a win, The Diamond Hornets swept Fairfield with a 54-43 Thursday night win.
Freshman Jordyn Adams led Griffin scorers with 13 points. Senior De’asia Feaster chipped in 7 points and 8 rebounds.
The loss dropped the Griffins to 14-5 on the season, 4-4 in league play.
Fairfield’s boys also looked for vengeance against Lower Richland last Thursday. Fresh off a devastating 61-32 loss in Hopkins, the Griffins nearly pulled off an upset in Winnsboro but fell to the Diamond Hornets 53-58.
The Griffin girls are set to face Daniel High (11-11) school tonight in the first round of the SC High School League 3A state playoffs. The winner will face the winner of Southside/Chapman on Feb. 19.
The boys (5-15, 3-5) faced Wren High School (17-8) in the first round of the 3A playoffs on Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time. The winner will advance to face the winner of Blue Ridge/Broom on Friday.
