FORT MILL – After an initial 83-59 loss to Charlotte Country Day School in the inaugural Copperhead Basketball Classic at Catawba Ridge High School, Fairfield Central boys bounced back to defeat York, earning their second win of the season.
Up 17-16 after a quarter, the Griffins held York to only seven points in the second quarter to take a 33-23 lead at halftime. The Griffins outscored the Cougars 18-11 and 21-18 in the third and fourth quarters.
Charlotte Country Day School’s boys’ team went on to win the tournament.
Fairfield Central Girls also fell in their opening game of the tournament with a 46-32 for their first loss of the season. They went on to defeat York 48-26 and Buford 45-34 to finish the tournament.
The Griffins will play at Great Falls on Friday before opening region action at home against Keenan on Jan. 11.
