PICKENS – Pickens High School defeated Westwood last Thursday to end the Redhawks’ volleyball season just a few games short of the title bout.
The Blue Flame took control of the match early, taking the first set easily 25-9 and the second set 25-14. Facing elimination, Westwood battled back in the third set. Pickens squeaked out their needed third win with a 26-24 final.
Westwood ends their Region IV 4A Runner Up season with a 13-6 record, 8-2 in league play.
Senior Katiya Daniel was selected to play in the North/South game on Nov. 20 at West Florence. She is one of four Redhawks who have received the honor in the school’s 10 years. Freshman Camryn Jeffery was named Region Player of the Year and was named to the 4A All-State team.
Pickens went on to defeat Catawba Ridge on Tuesday (25-8, 25-17, 25-22) to advance to the State Final, which will be played at Dreher High School on Saturday. They will face the winner of Aiken/Hilton Head.
