COLUMBIA – Blythewood’s cross country teams pulled two second place finishes at the Region 4-5A meet last week. The boys finished with 53 points (Spring Valley had 31) and the girls with 47, just one behind Northwestern (46) and three ahead of Spring Valley.
Blythewood’s William Lenker, a senior, finished first for the Bengals and in third place of the 35 runners with a time of 17:20. Spencer Shealy followed on his heels at 17:28. Senior Barry Hardy finished in ninth place at 18:04. Freshman Eureka Washington (18:50) and senior Malachi Brooks (19:23.00) rounded out the Bengal runners in 16th and 21st places overall.
Eighth grader Anna Kelly was the first finisher for the Bengal girls, placing second overall with a time of 20:16, just 13 seconds behind Rock Hill’s Brittany Mobley-Meulman. Freshmen Mallorie Hogue placed fifth overall at 20:55 and Jurnee Warren finished 10th at 21:53.00. Eva Pendleton (22:05) and Kendall Shealy (22:39) finished in 14th and 20th places.
The Bengal runners will compete in the 5A State Qualifier in Newberry on Saturday.
