ROCK HILL – The Blythewood football team took a 14-2 lead before halftime Friday night before Rock Hill scored twice to take a 17-14 lead at intermission and closed out a 24-20 win over the Bengals in Region 5-4A action.
Harrison Collins connected with Anthony McCollough for a 10-yard TD pass at the 8:35 mark of the first quarter.
After the Bearcats sacked Collins for a safety a minute and a half later, the Bengals (3-4 overall, 0-2 region) responded with a fumble recovery and a possession capped with a 1-yard Desmond Boatwright touchdown run early in the second quarter.
Rock Hill’s Matthew Wilson threw touchdown passes, and ran for a 2-point conversion as the Bearcats (2-4, 1-1) took a 17-14 halftime lead.
Midway through the third quarter and deep in Bengals territory, Collins felt the pressure from the Bearcats in his own end zone and lost the football. A Rock Hill defender grabbed it for the touchdown to make it 24-14 Bearcats.
Boatwright scored on a 27-yard pass play late in the third quarter, but the Bengals couldn’t find the end zone again in the final quarter.
Blythewood plays host to Spring Valley and Rock Hill is at Ridge View Friday.
