BLYTHEWOOD – After a dominating 5-1 win over Nation Ford in the opening round of the South Carolina High School League 5A State Playoffs, Blythewood tennis fell 4-2 to Riverside High School on Tuesday.
Riverside picked up wins from #1, #2, #5 and doubles. Blythewood’s #3 (6-3, 6-3) and #4 (6-2, 6-4) earned the team’s two points. The #5 and doubles losses came in third set tiebreakers.
The loss was the final match for six seniors who have contributed to Blythewood’s five straight region championships.
Volleyball
After clinching the region title, Blythewood was a favorite to win their first match in the 5A State playoffs, but Boiling Springs spoiled those plans.
The Bulldogs pulled out to a 2-0 lead after two sets with 25-21 and 25-22 wins. Blythewood took a more confident 25-16 win in the third set, but Boiling Springs returned to take set four 25-19 and eliminate the Bengals from playoff contention.
Blythewood ends the season with a 15-7-1 record and 7-1 league record.
