Blythewood’s Bengal Battalion hosted their annual Drill and Rifle meet on Oct. 23 as a part of the Greater Midlands Drill and Rifle League. Drill Sergeants from Fort Jackson’s 3rd Battalion Sixtieth Infantry Regiment served as evaluators for the meet as Blythewood’s team competed against nine Army JROTC schools. The Bengal Battalion Drill Team and Color Guard placed 1st overall and first place in 6 of the 7 events. The Bengal Battalion Rifle team hosted a rifle match and placed first place overall as well. The Rifle team placed 1st in Prone, Standing, and Kneeling and Ashton Fraser won his first ever first place medal as he placed first among all shooters in Kneeling. The Bengals will compete in their 3rd league match of the season at Lower Richland High School on Nov. 6.
