WINNSBORO – Griffin Cross Country kicked off the 2021 season last Wednesday at Chapin High School.
The Griffin boys pulled a fifth place team finish out of eight teams. Joshua Mosley finished first for Fairfield and in second place overall with a time of 16:41.56. He was followed by Nygel Woodard (20:04.49), Hank White (20:15.68), Rylan Woodard (21:20.49) and Sidney Wilson (22:12.73).
Freshman Kensley Green finished in 17th place overall for the girls with a time of 25:42.33. Teairra McDuffee finished at 29:35.95 and Kendis Green was a step behind at 29:35.65. Gianna Rhodes rounded out the Griffin runners at 32:00.98.
On Saturday, the Griffins took to The Battle of Camden. The Griffin boys finished sixth out of 11 schools with a combined 132 score and average time of 21:09.26.
Hank White led the Griffin boys with a 19:25.48 13th place overall finish. Nygel Woodard and Rylan Woodard followed at 20:30.73 and 21:45.88. Malachi Woodard finished fourth for Fairfield at 21:59.09 and Sidney Wilson finished at 22:05.13 to round out the Griffin scores.
Kensley Green again led the Griffin girls with a time of 25:52.67. Teairra McDuffie (28:39.72), Kendis Green (28:58.18), Jamie Downs (29:46.95) and Gianna Rhodes (31:03.85) followed.
The Griffins were set to host a home meet on Wednesday, but times were not available by The Voice’s press deadline. Fairfield runners will compete in Lexington at the Pelican’s Invitational on Sept. 7.
