WINNSBORO – Fairfield Central hosted their first and only scheduled home meet of the cross country season last Wednesday against Mid-Carolina, Camden, Lewisville, Great Falls and Chester.
The Griffin boys topped the 6-team meet with 26 points. Mid-Carolina followed with 61.
Fairfield Central had four of its runners finish in the top 6 of the meet. Senior standout Joshua Mosley finished first overall at 17:55.85. Freshman Hank White finished third overall, second for the Griffins with a time of 20:19.80. Eighth grader Nygel Woodard finished in fifth place overall at 20:46.46. Sophomores Rylan Woodard (21:02.06) and Malachi Woodard (22:18.00) finished in sixth place and 11th place overall, respectively. Each school’s top 5 runners’ times are counted in the meet.
Though the times of Fairfield Central runners Sidney Wilson and Chaze Hemphill were not counted towards’ the Griffins’ overall score, Wilson and Hemphill each finished in the top 28 runners. Wilson finished in 20th place overall at 23:08.25 and Hemphill at 26:06.05 in 28th place.
The Griffin girls placed third of five teams with a score of 79. Mid-Carolina topped the field with 27 points.
Freshman Kensley Green was Fairfield’s first finisher and fourth overall at 25:04.46. Other Griffin finishers were Kendis Green (28:17.78, 15th place), Jamie Downs (28:52.80, 17th place), Teairra McDuffie (30:05.10, 19th place) and Gianna Rhodes (33:25.84, 24th place).
The Griffins took to Lexington on Sept. 7 for the Pelican’s Invitational. Fairfield’s boys finished seventh place out of 16 teams.
Mosley led Griffin runners again, pulling a 7th place finish overall at 17:23.67. White followed at 20:36.42 for 38th place. Nygel Woodard finished at 21.14.44 for 44th place; Malachi Woodard finished at 23:01.10 for 70th place and Wilson at 23:03.21 for 71st place. Rylan Woodard followed closely at 23:16.98 for 73rd place.
The Griffin girls finished in 10th place out of 10 teams.
Kensley Green again led Fairfield runners at 24:51.71 for 46th place overall. Kendis Green followed at 27:29.23, McDuffie at 27:54.18, Downs at 28:39.78 and Rhodes at 31:50.40.
Fairfield will take to Chester for a meet on Sept. 14.
