BLUFFTON – Blythewood quarterback Harrison Collins saw live action for the first time this season, but the Bengals fell 24-14 at May River Friday night.
The Bengals trailed 10-0 after the Sharks scored a touchdown on the opening possession and followed up with a field goal early in the second quarter.
Collins, coming back from a broken hand, erased that deficit before the half.
Collins threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Thurman midway through the second quarter, then found Jacob Parker for an 8-yard score with 14 seconds left to give the Bengals a 14-10 lead at intermission.
The Bengals looked to build on their lead, but May River blanked them in the second half.
Sharks running back Gavin Douglas scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 13-yard run at the 2:45 mark of the third quarter.
To make matters worse, Naszier Chisolm returned an interception for a touchdown on Blythewood’s next possession.
With the Sharks up 24-14, the Bengals drove to the May River 7-yard line but the Sharks stopped them cold.
Blythewood (3-2) opens Region 4-5A play at Northwestern Oct. 8.
