COLUMBIA – Bengal swimmers competed at the Dreher Blue Devil Invitational on Sept. 26 at the University of South Carolina
The meet featured many of the top teams in the state. Blythewood boys placed seventh and the girls finished 10th out of nearly 20 teams competing.
Highlighting the meet for Blythewood were Conan Gust and Brayden Russell, who both qualified for the state swim meet. In qualifying, Russell broke the Blythewood High School record in the 100m breaststroke.
In addition to qualifying for the 100 breaststroke, Russell also qualifies to compete at the state meet in the 200 IM. Gust’s performance qualifies him to compete for a state title in the 200 free.
The boys state meet is set to be held Monday, Oct. 11 at the North Charleston Aquatic Center. The teams traveled to Lexington on Tuesday for the final dual meet of the season, but scores were not available at press time.
