BLYTHEWOOD – With the Region 4-5A championship fresh in hand after an 8-0 win over Northwestern Friday, the Bengals looked to notch their 20th victory of the season Tuesday night.
Thunderstorms in the area pushed Blythewood’s home game against Rock Hill to Wednesday.
The Blythewood softball team’s game against Spring Valley was moved to Wednesday as well.
Against Northwestern Friday, Davis Wright pitched 6 2/3 innings of 3-hit ball, striking out nine and walking one. Zac Cowan came on for one out in the seventh, striking out Will Kent to close the game—and the region—out.
Blythewood batters relied on small ball to score a run in the fourth inning, five more in the fifth, and two in the sixth.
Justin Flemming put the Bengals on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when his 2-out single to right scored Steelman, who led the inning off with a base hit. Flemming was caught trying to steal second to end the inning.
In the Bengals’ breakout fifth inning, Camden Watts bunt singled with one out and the bases loaded to score Ty Dooley. Kevin Steelman then singled up the middle to score C McCants and Brandon Hucks to make it 4-0.
After J White sacrifice bunted to move Watts to third and Steelman to second, Shane Lang Spittler singled to left to score both Watts and Steelman to make it 6-0. Flemming flied out to retire the side.
Zac Cowan and Hucks scored when Steelman reached base on a 2-out error in the sixth.
Blythewood, 19-2 overall and 11-0 region, play at Spring Valley Friday and play host to non-region opponent A.C. Flora for a doubleheader Monday.
