BLYTHEWOOD – A tornado watch could not stop the top-seeded Bengals from toppling T.L. Hanna in the first round of the SC High School League’s 5A State playoffs on Monday.
After a delayed start, the Yellow Jackets struck first and held a 1-0 lead through the first half.
With just under 30 minutes remaining in the match, Blythewood’s Evelyn Wright tied the game at 1 with a goal on a corner kick. Lauren Hendry put the Bengals in the lead at 2-1 with just over six minutes left in the game. T.L. Hanna could not respond, and Blythewood took the win to advance to the second round.
Wright and Megan Tarnawsky both had assists in the win. Senior Macy Moran had 12 saves on the night.
Blythewood will host the winner of Riverside-Nation Ford tonight for round two. A win will put the Bengals in a semi-final match on May 10.
