BLYTHEWOOD – The Westwood baseball team got in a lot of work at the South Carolina Diamond Invitational last week, but unfortunately narrowly missed getting a win. When the Redhawks took the field for the second half of Region 4-4A competition Monday night, they fell 10-1 to Dreher at the Westwood baseball field.
The Redhawks opened the Invitational with a 15-6 loss to T.L. Hanna April 7, during which Donnie Weston went 3-for-4, Liam Ginnery went 2-for-4, and Zach Gore doubled.
Westwood fell 10-0 to Lexintgon Thursday and 11-1 to Blythewood Friday. Blake Knight and Brantley Stroud both doubled for the Redhawks against the Wildcats.
In Westwood’s final game of the tournament, Brookland-Cayce opened up a 4-0 lead after five innings. In the top of the sixth, Michah Henryhand Colby Linn, and John Janco each singled to load the bases with one out. JaQuez Scarborough bunted to score Henryhand. Brandon Grindstaff then hit into a fielder’s choice to score Zephan Taala Robledo, the courtesty runner for Linn.
Mason Ginnery flied out to end the sixth, but in the top of the seventh Weston singled, moved to third over the course of two at-bats, later scored on an error with two outs to make it 4-3.
Unfortunately, Linn flied out to end the game.
Against Dreher, starting pitcher Dylan Bailey gave up five runs on three hits over three innings. He walked five. Liam Ginnery relived Bailey and gave up five runs over four innings on four hits and three walks.
The Redhawks (0-11, 0-5) play at Dreher (9-7, 4-3) Thursday.
