BLYTHEWOOD – The Round Top Baptist Church is a God-send in more ways than as a house of worship. It regularly provides food, clothing and household furnishings to anyone in the community who is in need.
Officially called the Round Top Baptist Church Food Pantry & Clothes Closet Ministry, it offers food items from Harvest Hope Food Bank on the second Saturday of each month, from 8 – 11:30 a.m. Clothing furniture, appliances and other household goods are given out on the fourth Saturday of each month, from 8 – 11:30 a.m.
“We don’t charge anyone for anything we give out,” said Constelena Cunningham, the chairperson of the giveaway program since it began in 2005.
The giveaways, manned by about 25 volunteers, are held at the Round Top Church community center located at 111 Round Top Court (off Round Top Church Road.)
Cunningham accepts donations for the giveaway every Tuesday from 9 a.m. – 12 noon at the Center and donors can call 803-786-1329 to arrange to drop items off at the church building next door from 9 a.m. – 12 noon on Mondays and Fridays.
The donated clothing items must be clean and in good condition. Cunningham said they do not accept mattresses or box springs.
“We have lots of good things to give away,” Cunningham said. “So we hope we have a big crowd this Saturday. We are anxious to serve our neighbors in the community or anyone in need.”
