BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood wrestling hosted a nine-ranked Region Champion Northwestern High School on Feb. 9 for their final match of the season.
Despite Juniors Matt Clack and Eric Montgomery claiming region titles in the match, Blythewood came up short at 53-12. Clack wrestled in the 120 pound class and Montgomery in 170. Clack, who completed the regular season with a 13-0 undefeated record, was named Region Wrestler of the Year. Montgomery finished the regular season with an almost perfect record at 13-1.
Senior Morgan Marshall finished as Region Runner-Up at 160 points, and sophomore Chase Johnson also finished as Region Runner-Up at 195 pounds.
The loss puts the Bengals, who had 32 wrestlers opt out of participating this season, at 7-7 on the season.
The High School League’s individual state qualifiers are set to be held Feb. 26-27 and State Finals March 5-6.
