Parting comments from councilman Jimmy Ray Douglas

I want to thank the people of District 2 for electing me to this seat in 2016.  And I want to thank the current council and Mr. Taylor for working together with us so well this last four years to accomplish a lot of good things for the county. It was my pleasure to serve the county and answer calls from my constituents.

We will soon be unveiling the new administration building and new council chambers. It was not an easy task getting there. We are making much progress on the west side of the county where nothing has been done for years. We have begun the revitalization of the Zion Hill/Fortune Springs Park area.

Our attorney Tommy Morgan and county administrator Jason Taylor have worked closely with me for four years to now have a new fire station for Lake Wateree. We created a joint water commission with the Town of Winnsboro. Our council is the first one in many years to have a good working partnership with the Town.

With the help of Ty Davenport, our director of economic development, this council brought almost 1,000 new jobs to the county. Dropping the county’s unemployment rate to 3 percent. We brought in 6 new industries, expanded two others, and brought in $100 million in investments. This council also laid the groundwork for a new wastewater treatment plant that I have no doubt will be built and that will greatly improve the county as it brings in many more industries and thousands more jobs. It’s been four years of hard work and many accomplishments, and I can say that I truly enjoyed my work on council. While I’m going to be retiring from county government, I’m still going to keep an eye on things as I always have.

Thank you,

Jimmy Ray Douglas, District 2
