Council hires new town admin

BLYTHEWOOD – Mayor Bryan Franklin has announced the hiring of a new town administrator.

Williamson

Carroll S. Williamson, who has served as the Planning and Development Director for the City of Cayce since 2017, accepted the position early last week, according to Franklin.

Council voted unanimously at a special called meeting on Dec. 16 to extend a contract to a candidate who they did not want to name until he was notified, and the contract was signed.

Williamson, 47, signed the two-year contract on Dec. 22 for an annual salary of $98,000. He will begin work at Blythewood Town Hall on Jan. 25, Franklin said. Williamson will replace Brian Cook who resigned effective Dec. 23 to become the Assistant Town Administrator for the Town of Mt. Pleasant.

Prior to working with Cayce, Williamson spent seven years with Richland County as Land Development Planner and later as Land Development Administrator.

He holds a Master’s in Public Administration degree from the University of South Carolina and is a graduate of the ICMA Emerging Leaders Development Program. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN and a Master’s degree in Horticultural Science from North Carolina State University. Williamson is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the International City/County Manager’s Association.

Williamson resides in Columbia with his wife and two daughters, ages 10 and 4.

“I am honored and excited to be selected by Mayor Franklin and town council as Blythewood’s next town administrator,” Williamson told The Voice. “The Town of Blythewood is an attractive, growing community and I look forward to beginning work soon.”

Mr. Williamson was absolutely the best candidate for the position,” Franklin said. “The selection was a unanimous choice among council members, and we are all looking forward to him coming to work with the town.”
