Much has been said about the proposed penny sales tax. As Chairman of the Fairfield Water and Sewer Authority I feel obligated to weigh in on this important issue. For the past thirty years I have witnessed industry leaving Fairfield County. This has resulted in little population and or job growth, which in turn requires our citizens to seek employment out of the county.
It is a known fact that growth follows utility infrastructure (i.e. Electric, Gas, Water, and Sewer). The Town and County working together have made significant progress in the provision of Water, Gas, and Electric utilities, but the lack of Sewer infrastructure has been the limiting growth factor.
Passage of the penny sales tax will help provide the necessary funds for a state of the art wastewater treatment plant. This plant will greatly enhance Fairfield County’s potential for residential, commercial, and industrial growth, which will in turn provide local job opportunities for Fairfield County citizens.
Additionally, passage of the penny sales tax diversifies the tax base and forestalls the need for individual property tax increases.
Vote yes on November 3 for a brighter future for us and our children.
