WINNSBORO – Richard Winn Volleyball opened its 2020-2021 season on Monday, the first official play date through the South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA). Though the atmosphere was different with a reduced crowd, temperature checking, gameball cleaning, masked fans and social distancing, the Eagles defended their home court with a 3-0 win over Calhoun Academy. The Eagles took the game with scores of 25-19, 20-2, and 25-20.
Seniors Emma Castles and Sydney Boulware served 21 of the team’s 25 points in the second set. Castles had five aces. Boulware led the team offensively with 9 kills and 4 aces. Meredith Pope tallied 8 kills on the night, and Taylor Spires added 5. Anna-Taylor Mathias was credited with 14 assists.
The team is back in action on Thursday as they travel to Calhoun for an early season rematch. They will travel to Heathwood Hall on Aug. 27 for their next match.
