FAIRFIELD COUNTY – The streets were empty in the early hours of Easter morning as the robes on crosses changed to white in front of churches across Fairfield County. While Fairfield’s places of worship (see The Voice’s Facebook post), remained quiet and empty at the usual worship hour, the internet, fields and parking lots were abuzz as congregants ‘gathered’ to worship on computers, conference calls and car radios. There were no organized community Easter egg hunts. But, it was still Easter Sunday and, from a distance, Fairfield’s worshipers found ways to worship. It wasn’t the same Easter Sunday as we have known it, but some say it was one of the most meaningful, inspiring Easter Sundays they can remember.
