ROCK HILL – Westwood Wrestling may be young, but their future looks bright. Despite a heavy concentration of freshman and sophomores, the Redhawks improved from a fifth-place 2018-2019 region finish to third place this season.
Ten Westwood wrestlers finished in the top-three at last week’s region meet. Elijan Villa took first place at 145 pounds. Cameron Shepard (106), AJ Reyes (138), Gabriel Smith (152), Jordan Hightower (170) and Drake Lesher finished in second place. Robert Wade (113), Trinity Lunn (120), Luther Bells (126) and Tyvion Shannon (182) each finished third.
The Redhawks head to Eastside High School on Saturday for the SCHSL 4-A State Tournament. They’ll face Palmetto High School in the first round. The winner will face top-seeded Eastside High School.
