LEXINGTON – Fairfield Central Basketball got its last taste of preseason action last week in the Lake Murray Tip-Off.
The Griffins faced Cross Creek High School in the first round on Monday. Fairfield jumped out to an early 23-15 lead after a strong offensive start in the first quarter, but the Razorbacks controlled the Griffin offense in the remaining periods.
Cross Creek outscored Fairfield 23-11 in the second period to take a tight 38-34 lead at the half. The Razorbacks put up 24 points in each of the remaining quarters to take the 86-61 win.
Fairfield faced familiar foe Lugoff-Elgin on day two of the tournament. The Demons took a 25-14 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Fairfield put up its biggest offensive production in the second quarter with 21 points, but Lugoff-Elgin produced 32 points to take a 60-35 lead at halftime.
Fairfield’s defense held the Demons to 40 points for the remainder of the game, but could only manage 28 points of their own to give Lugoff the 97-63 win.
Fairfield returned on day three to face off with Lexington High School. The Griffins led 28-26 after one period of play. The lead continued to bounce back and forth between Fairfield and the Wildcats, but Lexington pulled away in the fourth to take a 55-45 win.
The Griffins opened regular season action at home on Wednesday against Great Falls, but scores were not available at press time. They will host Newberry Friday and travel to Westwood on Tuesday for more non-conference action.
