WINNSBORO – The Richard Winn (RWA) Eagles went 2-0 this past week, moving their win streak to four games and improving to 6-3 overall this season. They defeat Cambridge Academy by a 64-23 score on Friday, Dec. 6 and Thomas Sumter Academy, 70-37 on Tuesday.
RW 64, Cambridge 23
Richard Winn jumped out to a 23-4 after one quarter and 41-12 at the half. The Eagles finished off Cambridge 23-11 in the second half.
Darius Boyd led the Eagles with a stat line of 22 points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals. He scored his 22 points on a 10-20 shooting performance. Derek Branham was the only other Eagle in double figures with 11 points on a 4-9 shooting day.
John Russell led the way for the Eagles with nine rebounds. Dru Caldwell finished with six assists and Derek Branham led the way with five steals.
RW 70, Thomas Sumter 37
For the second game in a row, the Eagles jumped out to a 23-4 lead after a quarter of a play. The second quarter was much more competitive as each team scored just 12 points in the period to give Richard Winn a 35-16 lead into the half. RWA went on to win the second half by a 35-21 margin en route to a 70-37 final. This was the Eagles’ second win over the Generals in a week.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Boyd with 25 points in the contest on 10 made shots as he sank five three-point baskets and five two point baskets. Hudson Wade also dropped in 23 points in the game on nine made two-pointers and he went 5-8 from the free throw line.
The Eagles are back in action on December 16 when they travel to Johnston to face-off with Wardlaw Academy.
