CAMDEN – Seconds separated Fairfield Central’s boys cross country team from a first place finish at the Region 4-AAA championship on Oct. 29. The Griffin boys finished with an average time of 17:52, just under Indian Land’s top finish of 17:35.
Senior Sammie Robinson was the first Griffin finisher, coming in fourth overall of 35 runners with a time of 17:19.31. Sophomore Joshua Mosley followed closely for fifth place with a 17:27.71 finish. Senior Malik Beaver’s time of 17:39.50 was good enough for seventh place overall. Malik Coleman finished eleventh at 18:14.95. Giacomo Rutigliano (18:43.17) finished in 16th place to round out the Griffins score. Luke Downs (19:00.48) and Gabriel Mosley (20:17.85) finished in 19th and 24th places.
The Griffin girls did not fare as well, finishing fourth of the five region teams. Ashanti Myers pulled the Griffin’s top spot with a time of 22:34.71 for an eleventh place finish overall. Nia Lemon finished on her heels at 22:35.12 for twelfth place. Trenell Boyd, Kensley Green and Elena Frick finished in 24th, 25th and 26th places.
Fairfield will run in the State Qualifying meet on Saturday. Qualifying runners will compete at the State meet on Nov. 16.
