CAMDEN – Try as it might, rainy weather couldn’t stop the Fairfield Central Cross Country team from running in the South Carolina High School League 3A State meet on Tuesday. The meet, originally slated for Saturday, was rescheduled because of rainy conditions.
Fairfield Central boys team finished in seventh place, a big jump from last year’s 15th place finish. Four Griffin runners finished in the top 40 runners, all with times under 18 minutes.
Sammie Robinson’s time of 17.23:98 was the Griffins’ best time. Robinson finished 30th overall. Joshua Mosley finished on Robinson’s heels in 34th place with a time of 17:29.93, and Malik Beaver and Malik Coleman followed at 17:38.99 and 17:39.22 for 38th and 39th places respectively.
Giacomo Rutigliano rounded out the top five Griffin runners at 18:37.77. Luke Downs finished 19:02.15 and Gabriel Mosley crossed with a time of 20.04.63.
