BLYTHEWOOD – It is a season for the history books. Redhawk Tennis moved to 12-0 on the season after conference wins over Ridge View, South Pointe, Lancaster and York to clinch the first region title in school history.
Westwood took down Ridge View 5-1 on Oct. 3. Kyndall Ragins defeated Gabrielle Walker 6-1, 6-0. Erin Mines, Kelsi Sharpe and Sara Haeflinger all picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles. The doubles duo of Cherokee Bradshaw and Katherine Connor won 3-6, 6-6, 1-0 (11-9) to wrap up the win.
The Redhawks conquered South Point next, also by a 5-1 margin. Ragins, Meera Rogers, Sharpe, Mines and Haeflinger each won singles matches in the Oct. 9 victory over the Stallions.
Westwood wrapped up their week on Oct. 10 with another 5-1 win, this time over Lancaster. Ragins, Rogers, Sharpe, Mines and Haeflinger swept the singles matches again to clinch the victory.
Tuesday’s match at York was no different – the Redhawks took down the Cougars 5-1.
Westwood will close out regular season play at home on Thursday with another conference match. They will honor seniors and host a pink out game against Richland Northeast. The match is set to start at 5 p.m.
The stellar season should set up Westwood for a bye in the first round of the 4A State Playoffs. They look to host their first match of the playoffs on Oct. 28 at home.
