CAMDEN – As Fairfield Central Cross Country’s regular season comes to a close, the Griffins are picking up speed. Fairfield Central competed in a 12-team meet in Camden on Tuesday, and the Griffin boys came away with another first place win.
Senior Malik Beaver finished in fourth place out of 81 runners, first for the Griffins, with a time of 17:39.34. Sammie Robinson finished on Beaver’s heels with a time of 17:42.10 for a fifth place finish. Joshua Mosley came in third for the Griffins, seventh overall, at 17:56.76, and Malik Coleman’s time of 17:59.47 was good enough for eighth overall.
Freshman Luke Downs wrapped up the Griffins scores in 18th place with an 18:50.80 finish. Seniors Giacomo Rutigliano and Gabriel Mosley also finished under 20 minutes with times of 19:11.96 and 19:47.74.
Fairfield Central girls finished fifth out of eight teams. Nia Lemon finished first for the Griffins again and in 12th place overall at 23:06.55. Ashanti Myers finished in 17th place at 24:09.17. Trenell Boyd followed at 26:17.92. Kensley Green, Elena Frick and Christin Gray rounded out the Griffins score.
Fairfield is slated to compete in the Cici’s Derby on Saturday. The Griffins look to top the Region 4A-AAA Championship on Oct. 29 and advance to the Upper State meet on Nov. 9 and State Championship on Nov. 16.
