BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood Volleyball hosted Aiken and Nation Ford high schools Sept. 10 for a tri-match.
Aiken took game one 25-22. Blythewood battled back in game two to take a 25-23 win and send the match into a deciding game three, which the Bengals won 15-12.
Senior Colleen Finney led the Bengals with 16 kills against the Fighting Green Hornets, followed closely by Brooke Thomas with 14. Finney also tallied 4 aces and five digs in the win. Thomas led the team two blocks and 8 digs.
Blythewood faced defending 5A State Champions Nation Ford next and took a 2-0 loss with scores of 25-16 and 25-18.
Finney charted seven kills in nine attempts in the loss to Nation Ford. Lauryn Coleman and Thomas each added five. Macy Collins tallied 43 assists on the night.
The Bengals bounced back quickly, taking a 3-0 win at AC Flora on Sept. 12. Blythewood took the first set 25-17 and followed with 25-11 and 25-19 wins.
Thomas led the way for the Bengals with 15 kills. She also notched 12 service receptions, 8 digs, a block and an ace. Finney added 13 kills, 13 receptions, 11 digs and 6 aces. Collins charted 32 assists in the three-game sweep.
The Bengals handled Rock Hill 3-0 in their first meeting earlier this year, and their second meeting Tuesday was no different. Blythewood took set one 25-23, set two 25-21 and set three 25-11 for a series sweep of Rock Hill.
The Bengals are back at home tonight against Irmo in their first conference match of the season.
