Fairfield’s National Night Out, Spirit Fest set for Aug. 6

WINNSBORO – A First Responders’ Parade has been planned to kick off this year’s National Night Out in Fairfield County.

The parade, sponsored by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department and the Winnsboro Public Safety Department, will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6:15 p.m. in downtown Winnsboro.

“But the fun, food and games will last until 9:15 p.m.,” Sgt. Francine Goins of the FCSD said. “We will have balloons, face painting, free popcorn and cotton candy, music and lots of other entertainment for families who come out to join us and support our first responders,” Goins said.

“There will be ambulances, police cars and fire trucks for the kids to see as well as just plain ol’ fun and fellowship for the whole family,” she added.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign by law enforcement intended to promote strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

“National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community,” FCSD Deputy Oren Gadson said. “It provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.”

Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August.

“And we’re doing that here,” Gadson said.

The parade will follow Spirit Fest for Fairfield Central and Richard Winn, which will be held at 5 p.m. in front of the clock where the fall sports teams will be introduced.
