YORK – Westwood hosted Ben Lippen in their final regular season game last Wednesday. Essany Baliff scored the Redhawks’ lone goal in the second half, but the Falcons squeaked past the Redhawks for a 2-1 win. Kelin Rodriguez managed four saves in six shots on goal.
The Redhawks traveled to York High School on Monday for the first round of the Class 4A girls soccer state playoffs. York, a two seed, bested the Redhawks 2-0 in the bout, eliminating Westwood from the tournament.
Westwood closed their season with a 9-10 record. The Redhawks were lead offensively by junior Taleah Hayes, who topped scorers with 10 goals this season. Senior Jada Pearson scored eight. Jasmine McConnell had five assists on the season. Rodriguez finished the season with 40 saves for 2.2 saves per game.
Westwood soccer ended their season on a high note when they defeated Mid-Carolina last Wednesday. The Redhawks trailed 1-0 heading into the second half, but put up two goals late in the game to secure the 2-1 win.
The Redhawks (6-15) ended their season short of a playoff bid. The Redhawks were lead offensively by seniors Saiquewan Bennett, who had 8 goals on the season, and Dajson Howard, who totaled four season assists.
