Bengals set for Qualifiers

COLUMBIA – Bengals Track and Field traveled to Spring Valley last Thursday for the SCHSL Region 4-5A meet against Spring Valley, Sumter, Lugoff-Elgin and Irmo.

Stephen Dauway, Alan Deogracias, Jacob Cochran, Nick Rogers and Payton Manuel each grabbed a first place finish for the boys. Makeshria Brown, Chisom Emetu, Janyia Pinkney and Briana Green also finished first for the girls. First place finishers were named Region Champions and All Region and their spots were secured for the State Qualifier meet on Saturday.

Blythewood Boys Results

Dauway finished first in 200 finals with a personal record of 22.23 and third in 100m with a 10.97 personal record. Dauway’s first place finish is a top-five all-time finish for a Bengal. Dauway will advance to the State Qualifiers in both the 100 and 200.

Deogracias topped the men’s 1600 meters at 4:37.93 followed by Christian Pearson in third at 4:44.52 and Daniel Turnipseed in fourth at 4:45.26. Deogracias also placed first in 3200m at 9:59.51. Deogracias will compete in both the 1600 and 3200 at Qualifiers.

Cochran placed first in the 110m hurdles at 15.22.

Rogers finished first in discus at 135-11 and first in shot put at 49-07.5. Patrick Godbolt followed in second in shotput at 46.02.00. Rogers will compete at State Qualifiers in both shotput and discus. Godbolt, who also landed an All Region title, will advance to the State Qualifiers with his second place finish.

Payton Manuel placed first in high jump with a personal record of 6-06.00.

Blythewood Girls Results

Makeshria Brown topped the 100m hurdles with a personal record of 15.37. Teleah Moorer placed second at 15.51. Moorer also finished fourth in the 400m hurdles with a personal record of 1:12.01.

Chisom Emetu placed first in shot put at 33-05.00 and second in discus at 98-07.

Janyia Pinkney capped the high jump field with a 4-10.00 personal record.

Briana Green finished first in long jump at 17-01.00 followed by Sharell Cherry in second at 17-00.00.

Sharetha Odom finished second in 100m at 12.49 followed closely by Teauana Thomas in third at 12.53.

The Bengals’ 4×100 relay team placed second at 49.16. The 4×400 relay team also finished second at 4:10.84.

Kenia Harrison placed second in triple jump at 34-08.00.

Odom finished fourth in 200m at 26.32 followed by Ariana Williams at 26.50 for fifth.
