COLUMBIA – The Westwood Redhawks were tied 4-4 midway through Friday night’s contest against with Richland Northeast, but a late RNE explosion cost Westwood. The game was all knotted up in the bottom of the sixth when the Cavaliers plated four runs on three hits, an error, a walk and a hit batter. Westwood could not mount a comeback in the top of the seventh, and RNE prevailed 8-4.
Coby Buck had two hits and RBI for the Redhawks. Gaines Salvant knocked in two runners and Jalen Jackson also batted in a runner. John Janco started on the mound and pitched four innings. He gave up nine hits, four runs, two earned, and struck out two.
Then on Monday night, the Redhawks suffered a tough loss to Airport. The Redhawks ran into some tough pitching and only scored one run on four hits. The Eagles cruised to an easy 14-1 victory.
JD Davis went 1-1 with a double. Dylan Bailey and Coby Buck each got a hit. Rashad McCain knocked in Westwood’s only run of the night.
The Redhawks suffered another loss on Tuesday night to Region 3-4A foe York. Both teams were stuck at one run each, until York opened up some room in the third inning and did not look back as they cruised to a 11-5 win. Jalen Jackson had three hits and a RBI for the Redhawks. Buck picked a couple more hits to add to his season total. BJ Williams, Eddie Olmeda and Joseph Bennett each batted in a runner.
The Redhawks face travel to Lancaster for their second matchup with the Bruins this season. Lancaster bested the Redhawks 4-3 when they last met on March 19. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
