BLYTHEWOOD – After splitting games in last week’s with Richland Northeast (loss 9-11) and York (win 2-1), Westwood hosted conference opponent Lancaster Tuesday night. Tied at three after seven innings, Lancaster scored on an error in the top of the eighth for the 4-3 win.
Westwood took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added another in the fourth, but Lancaster was able to contain the Redhawks for the remainder of the game.
Lancaster tied the game up at three in the top of the sixth to send the game into extra innings.
John Janco got the start on the mound for the Redhawks. He went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking one. Hayden Caldwell faced five batters in two-thirds of an inning. Eddie Olmeda took the loss for the Redhawks in one and one-third innings of relief.
Olmeda went 2-4 at the plate to lead the Redhawks offensive efforts. Josh Wise went 1-3 with a double and an RBI.
The Redhawks travel to South Pointe on Friday for a conference game at 7 p.m. They’ll host Spring Valley on March 25 at 7.
