BLYTHEWOOD – Monday’s home conference game against Irmo proved to be a battle for the Blythewood boys lacrosse team, ending in an Irmo 5-4 win after two overtimes.
The Bengals led 2-1 after three quarters, but Irmo charged back for a 3-2 fourth period to send the game into overtime. Both teams were scoreless after the first overtime period, but Irmo’s score in the second gave them the win.
Senior Ricky Labine, sophomores Jake Bailes, Matt Summerford and Nick Van Zyle each finished with a goal. Bailes and junior Thomas Gunter each tallied one assist.
Bailes, Coulson Hance and Paul Summerford had interceptions. Matt Summerford and John Sims had one takeaway apiece. Senior Jacob Gayle managed eight saves in 12 shots on goal.
The Bengals faced Chapin Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time. They travel to Hammond for a 5:00 game on Friday.
