SUMTER – Blythewood tennis started the season off with a bang, defeating Northwestern 5-1, and Hammond 4-3 before suffering a 2-1 loss to Irmo. The Bengals picked up their first conference win on Tuesday at Sumter with a score of 5-1.
In singles play, Reed Broderick defeated Tyler Smithhart 6-1, 6-2; Alex Kivett picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Drew Newman; Carter Johnson defeated Frampton McCloskie 6-2, 6-1; David Burns took down Logan Stanley 6-1, 6-0; and Morgan Marshall picked up the fifth win in a 6-1, 604 defeat of Daniel Gilman.
The Bengals (3-1) will host Lugoff-Elgin for a 5 p.m. conference match tonight.
