SUMTER – Richard Winn knocked off their first three opponents in the SCISA 1A State Tournament to set up a semi-final matchup with an undefeated Clarendon Hall. Clarendon’s Zyan Gilmore burned the Eagles for 17 in the first half, and his game-high 25 points led the Saints to a 73-58 win. Will Carvalho led the Eagles in scoring with 15 and Darius Boyd followed with 12.
The Saints’ offense filled up the stat sheet early. They had 23 points in the first quarter and Gilmore had nine in the first. Richard Winn’s offense got off to a slow start and no Eagle had more than four points in the first.
Richard Winn’s offense found a spark in the second quarter. They knocked down five trifectas in the second, but were not able to halt Clarendon’s momentum. The Saints only knocked down one in three in the quarter, but still outscored RWA 24-20.
The rapid offensive pace slowed in the second half, and the Eagles struggled to cut into the lead. RWA only knocked down three field goals in the third. Clarendon padded their lead by four more.
The Saints held a commanding 15-point lead at the start of the fourth. Zack Taylor, the only Eagle to have more than three points in the final period, had five in the fourth, but it was not enough to chip away the lead.
Clarendon Hall went on to add the exclamation mark to their perfect season. They knocked off Cathedral Academy 57-41 in State Championship game.
