WINNSBORO – Richard Winn (10-10) rounded out their regular season in an impressive fashion on Friday night against King Academy. King’s offense was anemic, and Richard Winn capitalized big time. The Eagles only surrendered four points in the final three quarters, and they marched to a 46-13 victory.
King was competitive in the first quarter and only trailed by four after the first eight minutes. After the buzzer to end the first, it was all Richard Winn. Richard Winn’s eight point second-quarter would be double what King put up in the rest of the game. King did not sink a single field goal after the first.
Taylor Spires led Richard Winn’s offensive charge. She had a game high 17 points, but also pulled down 15 rebounds, dished out three assists and had two steals. Hannah Gibbons had a hot second half. She racked up 12 of her points in the third and fourth quarters.
The win landed the Eagles third in conference standings. They see action again against Newberry Academy at 4 p.m. on Friday in the Region Tournament at Greenwood Christian. The Eagles fell to Newberry twice in regular season action, both by tight margins: 42-48 and 31-40. A win on Friday would land the Eagles in the Region Championship game on Saturday.
