WINNSBORO – The Richard Winn Eagles (17-2) wrapped up their regular season play with a blowout victory. The Eagles dominated the game from the beginning and snagged a 59-35 conference win. Hudson Wade led all scorers with 17, and the Eagles’ second volume scorer, Darius Boyd, was not far behind with 13.
Marshall Gibbons was one of three Eagles to knock down a trifecta in the first quarter. Gibbons had 11 points on the night, and nine of those came by way of the three-pointer. Richard Winn sank seven 3-pointers on the night. King only had three in the first quarter.
The slow start hampered the Knights, and they could not catch up to the Eagles’ fast paced attack. Hudson Wade scored 15 of his 17 points in the second and third quarter to stave off King’s come back attempts. The Knights only knocked four field goals in the second half.
The win clinched a Region Championship for the Eagles (9-1), who look to finish at the top of the Region Tournament this weekend. The Eagles will face Newberry Academy Friday evening at 8 p.m. in Greenwood. A win will put them in position to play for the Tournament Championship on Saturday.
