COLUMBIA – The Westwood Lady Redhawks were back in action Tuesday night and had the Hammond Skyhawks clearly in their sights. They keep their early-season momentum rolling and crushed Hammond 76-29. Nyah Leveretter and Ja’la Wade both recorded double-doubles in the blowout victory.
Hammond did not get a single shot to fall in the first quarter, and after eight minutes they were already in a 0-20 hole. The lead continued to grow in the second, and by halftime Westwood was up 49-10.
The Skyhawks had no answer to the Redhawks’ high-caliber offense in the second half, and Westwood continued to pour on the points. They outscored Hammond 37-19 combined in the third and fourth quarter.
Leverterr and Wade led the team in scoring with 11 points apiece. They were the only Redhawks to crack double digits, but a total of 10 Redhawks put up points. Leveretter also pulled down 14 boards, and Wade had 10 rebounds of her own.
