FAIRFIELD COUNTY – The holidays will officially kick off in Fairfield County on Saturday, Nov. 24 with a full day of shopping and eating out – locally.

Merchants in Ridgway and Winnsboro will be hosting special Shop Small sales and events, and many foods and crafts will be on sale at the Farmer’s & Artisans’ Market located at 117 E. Washington Street behind the Town Clock. Most shops in Ridgeway and Winnsboro will be open by 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.

Shoppers can pick up Shop Small canvas shopping bags in the first floor of the Winnsboro Clock beginning at 9 a.m., and at the tiny police station in Ridgeway. Merchants in both Winnsboro and Ridgeway will be handing out Shop Small bags containing gifts, coupons or tickets for drawings and surprises. One will contain a coupon for a free night at a local Bed and Breakfast.

At 12 noon, shoppers and spectators will be treated to one of Winnsboro’s most entertaining parades – the Fairfield High School Alumni Parade – featuring bands and about 20 floats carrying representatives of the various FHS classes from 1949 to 1975.

On Sunday, Nov. 25, at 5 p.m., the Town Christmas Parade will float down S. Congress St. featuring bands, prancing horses, dancing girls, sports teams and the newly crowned Fairfield County pageant winners, including Miss Fairfield County Supreme, Taylor Catledge.

There is no charge to enter a float in the parade, but all vehicles must be registered with the Chamber. Prizes will be awarded for Best Church Float, Best Walking Group and Best Overall Float.

After the parade, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held at the tree in front of the Town Clock and will include music and refreshments. Santa will greet children, hand out candy and pose for pictures.

And the holiday fun doesn’t end there.  Santa will be visiting the Fairfield County Library on Thursday Nov. 29, from 6 – 7:30 p.m.
