COLUMBIA – The Westwood Redhawks boys cross country team showed up for action at the Region Championship meet and brought their first ever region title home. The Redhawk girls placed third.
Paul McCants was the top runner for the Redhawks and placed a second overall finish. Jordan Alexander-Coleman turned in a fifth place performance, and David Nelson was right behind him at sixth. Caleb Patterson was eighth and eight grader William Tyndall was ninth. Jace Risher and Patrick Hawkins came in at 16th and 17th respectively.
Alanie Foster had the top time for the Lady Redhawks and was hair away from an overall first place finish. Halle Penniston clocked in at 11th and Leayzia Shiver was not far behind at the 12th place spot.
State qualifiers will be held on Oct.29.
