COLUMBIA – The Fairfield Central Griffins’ boys cross country team turned a solid second place finish at the Region 4-3A meet and five runners finished in the top 20. Malik Coleman was the top runner for the Griffins and had a fifth place finish. Sammie Robinson was a little over a second behind Coleman and claimed the sixth place spot.
Malik Beaver’s time was good enough for the tenth spot. Joshua Mosley followed behind at 11th and Jarrod Neal was on his teammates heels in the 12th position. Gabriel Mosley rounded out the top Griffin runners at the 20th spot.
Ashanti Thompson was the top runner on the girls’ side, and she came in at ninth overall. Trenell Boyd finished in 15th, but it was not enough to the Griffins to place in the top three.
State Qualifiers will be held on Oct.29.
