WINNSBORO – The Richard Winn Eagles needed a win on Friday to push their record back to .500, and they did more than enough in their matchup with Calhoun Academy to get the season record to an even 4-4. The dynamic quarterback duo of Zack Taylor and Dru Caldwell got the job done again this week. The two combined for 253, five touchdowns and only two incompletions in the Eagles’ 48-6 victory.

Calhoun’s first drive came and went without any threat of moving the ball down the field, and ended with a fumble deep in their own territory. The quick-strike Richard Winn offense turned the first possession into a swift score. Zack Taylor opened the drive with a 20-yard quarterback keeper, and on the next play he finished the drive off on a five-yard touchdown run.

The Eagle defense put the brakes on the next the Cavaliers drive and forced a turnover on downs on at the Calhoun 36-yard line. A few plays later, Taylor zipped in a 32-yard touchdown pass to Hudson Wade.

Brandon Miller put a sudden halt on Calhoun’s third drive with an interception and nearly made a touchdown return, but was dragged down at the Cavaliers five-yard line. Two plays later, the Eagles pushed the ball into the end-zone on a one-yard Taylor quarterback keeper. The first quarter ended with Richard Winn up 21-0.

The Cavaliers lone offensive bright spot was their 50-yard scoring drive that began in the first quarter and stretched into the second. Calhoun capped off the nine-play drive on a five-yard rushing score.

RWA struck back in only four plays. Taylor and Wade mirrored their early touchdown, and came up with another 32-yard score. The Eagles lead continued to climb before the halftime break.

Dru Caldwell came in with the Eagles up 28-6, and proceeded to put the finishing touches on the blowout win. His first touchdown pass was a 73-yard strike to Jimmy McKeown. Caldwell hit McKeown for another touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Their touchdown connection went for 27 yards and gave RWA a 41-6 lead.

Late in third quarter, the Eagles added one last score to the already comfortable lead. Caldwell rang up J Talbert for a 40-yard pass, Caldwell’s third touchdown of the night. Richard Winn hits the road for their next game against King Academy.
