Mr. and Mrs. James W. Stephenson III celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on October 3, 2018. They were married in the White Oak Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on Oct. 3, 1953. Dr. R. C. Grier officiated.
Music was performed by Mrs. Anne Macfie Moore, soloist; Mrs. Elizabeth Moore Chase, violinist; and Mrs. Geneva Moore Williams, pianist.
The bride, the former Ivor Patrick, a graduate of Erskine College, and the groom, a graduate of Clemson College, spent their first year of marriage in Augsburg, Germany where Jimmy served in the U. S. Army Quartermaster Corps. When they returned home in 1955, Jimmy began working at Belk Department Store under his father, J. W. Stephenson, Jr., as assistant manager. He continued working at Belk for almost 40 years until it closed in 1999.
Ivor and Jimmy celebrated their anniversary with an Old Fashioned Ice Cream Party at Abba’s Sweet Treats, the old Economy Drug Store in Winnsboro. Their son James welcomed guests at the door. Mrs. Hannah Phillips, twin sister of the bride kept the bridal register. Their daughter Anne Broom helped serve ice cream, iced cake squares, nuts and mints. Assisting her were Ms. Lee Walker, Ms. Joan Combie, and Ms. Jane Phillips, niece of the bride.
Of the surviving eight members of the wedding party six were present: the bride and groom, the matron of honor and twin sister of the bride Mrs. Hannah Phillips; bridesmaid and special friend, Mrs. Ann Tinkler Devlin, Joe J. Stephenson and Robert F. Stephenson, brothers of the groom.
Doug Broom, son-in-law and Rebekah Phillips, great niece provided music from the ‘50’s
In their retirement Ivor and Jimmy are enjoying serving in their church, Sion Presbyterian Church, traveling, assisting in social and community activities and especially enjoying happy times at their Lake Wateree home.
