CALHOUN – The Griffins went winless through their opening three weeks of non-conference play, but they looked more than ready for their first 3A game against the Calhoun County Saints. Fairfield’s group of young talent made plays at every turn and buried the Saints in a 46-26 rout.
Running back Will Barber has shined bright for Fairfield this season, even when the scoreboard did not favor the Griffins. The Calhoun game was no different. Barber picked up 112 yards against the Saints’ defense on 17 carries and had two touchdowns.
Junior Chris Suber only had 49 yards rushing but found the end-zone on three separate occasions. Receiver Chris Simmons had only one reception, but it went for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Freshman quarterback Stephon Gadsden went 7-11 with 142 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
